Famous for powder, with snow deliberately left ungroomed; one of the largest night-skiing operations in Japan.
Four resort areas

Niseko is made up of four resort areas: Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri.

The four areas connect at the top, and an all-mountain pass (NISEKO UNITED) covers all four.

Grand Hirafu · FUYU lessons meet here | 22 main runs | Every level finds somewhere to practise, with long runs and challenging terrain.
Suits: beginners, edge changes on green and red runs, and tree and powder riding. Every level finds somewhere to practise, and the runs are long, so you spend your time riding rather than on lifts.Coach's viewHirafu's terrain is challenging too; if you can already ride, it has plenty of surprises in store.
Hanazono | 12 main runs | A practice paradise if you can change edges on red; newer riders may tire of it quickly.
Suits: complete beginners, edge changes on red runs, and tree and powder riding. The terrain here is unusual, with a very wide range of levels, and it is the area people misjudge most. If you can already change edges on a red run, it is a paradise for practice: plenty of trees, powder and varied terrain make it great fun.Coach's viewIf you are still new to it, there is one gentle green run here, and you may tire of it quickly.
Niseko Village | 24 main runs | Good for exploring; the long route needs several skills, so it is not always the best place for a lesson.
Suits: complete beginners, edge changes on red runs, and tree and powder riding. The range of levels is wide, and one very long route runs all the way down the mountain, but it takes several skills: connector trails, edge changes on steeps, straight-line speed, and even knowing the terrain.Coach's viewGreat for exploring the mountain, but for a lesson it may not be the best choice.
Annupuri · FUYU lessons meet here | 11 main runs | Spacious with good snow, runs that suit practice, and plenty of gates.
Suits: beginners, edge changes on green and red runs, and tree and powder riding. In a word: spacious. The snow is good, there are runs ideal for practice in a lesson, and even some easy trees to play in. For exploring, the gates here offer plenty of choice.Coach's viewBeyond the gates you need to know the route, or you will get lost.

  • Beginner

    We recommend taking your lesson at Annupuri: the terrain is spacious and the slopes are steady.

  • Practising edge changes

    Hirafu is your first choice: you'll improve quickly practising here.

  • Advanced riding

    The whole mountain is yours to ride. It's genuinely fun, and you'll never run out of terrain.

Your coach gives you a clear direction to practise in, talks things through with you, and works through your riding issues. A full day is 6 hours including a 1-hour lunch break, starting between 08:30 and 10:00; a half day is 3 hours, morning or afternoon.

Niseko offers mountain guiding: your guide takes you across the whole mountain, including natural terrain beyond the marked runs. Every guide holds an avalanche safety (AST) certificate. During the day you'll learn how to use the three essential avalanche tools, and you stay in touch over Bluetooth headsets throughout.
Families with kidsToddler / Kids CourseFrom age 3, one-on-one for under-7s
Kids can start from age 3. Under-7s are taught one-on-one; from age 7 they can join a regular group and ski with the family. Lessons include explanation, stationary practice and riding the lift, and the coach adjusts the pace to how your child is doing.
First time skiingBeginner LessonRecommended: full day, 6 hours
For a first time, we recommend a full 6-hour day: learn to stop, learn to turn, and ski down a green run on your own. If you only have one day, we suggest skis rather than a snowboard: you'll be skiing on your own sooner and get a real sense of achievement.

A 2-hour lesson during night-skiing hours. One of the largest night-skiing areas in Japan, great for practice and for photos at the same time. The resort at night is genuinely beautiful. Only runs during night-skiing hours.
