Niseko Airport Bus Compared: Resort Liner vs. White Liner vs. Chuo Bus

The bus is most people's first choice, but there's more than one bus company — pick the wrong one and you might pay more, or book a service that doesn't even reach where you're staying.

The three common bus companies, compared

The following is 26-27 season data checked word-for-word against all three companies' official sites (Resort Liner and White Liner are already open for booking; Chuo Bus's cheap route hadn't published its 26-27 timetable as of our check — the site still showed the summer schedule, so we've used the standard fare currently listed):

One key point that ties into our savings guide: both White Liner and Chuo Bus run narrower operating windows. If your trip happens to fall right at the start or end of low season — early December or late March — there's a real chance the day you want to travel simply isn't running yet, or has already stopped for the season. Of the three, only Resort Liner's window fully covers the entire low season (1 Dec–30 Mar for 26-27). Before booking, always check whether your chosen company's operating window actually covers your outbound and return dates — don't book accommodation or a lesson first and then discover the bus can't get you there that day. Easy to mix up: Chuo Bus actually runs two completely different products with confusingly similar names. This post covers the cheap "Koutoku Niseko-go / Chitose-Niseko Line" (New Chitose Airport bus stop 12 direct to Hirafu, ¥2,600 one-way, a regular route bus). Chuo Bus's site also has a separate reservation-based sightseeing coach called "Teiki Kanko Bus," which also connects the airport and Niseko, but costs ¥6,000 one-way, takes 3.5 hours, and makes far more stops along the way — a completely different tier of service. Double-check which one you've actually clicked into before booking, or you'll end up paying more and spending more time.

Quick note: as of 14 August 2026, both Resort Liner and White Liner have opened bookings for the 26-27 season, and White Liner has a limited-time 25% online discount through 31 August (¥5,250 one-way). Chuo Bus's cheap-route timetable for 26-27 hasn't been published yet — if you want to lock in an early- or late-season departure, or want to compare against White Liner's limited-time discount, we'd suggest focusing on the first two for now and revisiting Chuo Bus once it publishes.

A free option once you're actually in Niseko

Once you arrive at Hirafu Welcome Center, Kutchan Town runs a free local loop bus called the "Sky Resort Shuttle Niseko," operating daily through the winter. It starts from Hirafu Welcome Center and loops around Kutchan's main sights, unlimited rides, completely free — handy for getting around locally without calling a taxi or walking every time.

A few things to check before booking

• Whether your outbound/return dates fall within the bus company's announced operating window (this trips people up most often right at the start or end of low season)
• Whether a stop is actually near where you're staying, or whether you'll need an extra transfer or a walk
• Luggage policy: most bus companies limit both ski/board bags and the number of regular bags — confirm before you go, so you're not hit with an extra fee or turned away at the stop
• Book well ahead during peak season (especially Christmas/New Year and Lunar New Year) — unlike a taxi, you can't just flag a bus down on the spot; once it's booked out, it's booked out

Q: Can the bus sell out and leave me stranded?

Yes, it can happen during peak season, especially late December through early January. Buses run strictly on schedule — they won't wait for late passengers, and there's no such thing as an extra bus added on the spot. Book ahead rather than gambling on buying at the counter.

Q: What if the bus is delayed?

Hokkaido winters bring snow, and bus delays are common, especially in blizzard conditions. When planning your itinerary, build in generous buffer time rather than scheduling your bus arrival too tightly against a lesson or dinner reservation.

Q: Can I get off partway through in Otaru or Sapporo?

It depends on the company and route — most direct services don't allow stopping partway. If you want to swing by Otaru en route, plan it as a separate trip, or choose a route that actually passes through the city center.
